I'd read an earlier version of this book and was not enamored but I can unequivocally say that this new edition has really risen to new heights. What a great story this is turning out to be!
All's Fair in Vanity's War continues the story of Locke, Keleigh, the Seer, has added some delightful new characters (Madi and Wiz), and expanded the appearance of some others (Tristan and Lynx). I can't wait for Book 3 to come out to see what happens next.
The underlying mythology for this series is Celtic - new to me when I read the first book, The Seer. The author starts each chapter with a short definition/description of new mythological concepts or persons which is very helpful in an ebook - you don't have to go to a glossary somewhere else for a basic explanation. I appreciate that.
This book is hard for me to review. It had a lot of information that needed to be brought to the readers attention, but it slowed the pace of the book for me. I adore the Celtics lore brought out in it and loved that the "Seer" from book 1 was brought back as a narrator of sorts. This book is Keleigh and Locke's story and while several other characters are present, they are the main focus. Keleigh is trying to follow her mother's request and leave magic alone, yet others keep trying to cajole her into becoming what she was born for ; a "vate" , a prophetess, someone who will see the future, interact with it and change it as necessary to control the outcome of everyone's fate . Once you work out who belongs to whom, where they fit in the world of the "ordinary" & "extraordinary ", it becomes much easier to follow and enjoyable to read. 4 ☆'s . I recommend this book to anyone who loves paranormal romance and urban fantasy. I received a gifted copy and am voluntarily choosing to leave an honest and unbiased review.
What can I say about this book? Frickin Awesome, I was completely gutted when it ended! I needed it to carry on.. I am now dying to read the third book. This is an amazing book written by an incredibly talented author!
I adored this storyline, it carries on from the first book so if you haven't read the first book it will make a lot more sense if you read that one first. I was completely and utterly hooked on this book from the first sentence to the last. There are so many parts in this that you will become surprised at what happens , one big surprise of not what but who comes along -) But I wont say any more than that as it could spoil the surprise. There is a lot of anguish and aspects of love and pain in this book, but that's what makes it amazing! It is full of secrets and unknowns on all sides and I love taking the journey with the characters to find out the truth.
My favourite character..... Definitely Tristan... that is one secretive guardian. I love reading about him and would love to know more about who he is and what sort of life he has led. He is not the typical male character and I think that's why I like him, he kind of appears out of nowhere but you always know he is either around or would come at a simple call from the Seer. I do feel bad for the Seer, being able to watch all and not communicate, not realising what she could have but I am sure she will come upon that revelation. I also have to say that I love the idea of the co-seer, I did not see what one coming! I am becoming more and more curious about Keleigh and what it is she can really do, I loved getting more info on her and her past. The way the characters are written is flawless, the descriptions are vital and full of colour, it really does make you feel like you are there watching all the action unfold.
This is an outstanding book, I loved every single part of this, it is a must read that is a serious page turner that all should read!!!
